Nigeria’s Ekerekeme Agiomor has secured an Olympic ticket on the final day of the Africa/Oceania Olympic qualifiers in Tunisia.
He will be the only Nigerian male wrestler at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Wrestling in the 86kg freestyle event, the 2018 African Champion produced three big wins to seal a first Olympic berth.
Other Nigerian wrestlers, including Ebikewenimo Welson (57kg), Amas Daniel (65kg), Ogbonna John (74kg) and Soso Tamarau (97kg), all failed in their quest to secure Olympic spots in Tokyo.
Agiomor’s qualification means Team Nigeria will now parade one male and four female wrestlers at the summer games in Tokyo.
10-time African Champion Blessing Oborududu, Commonwealth gold-medalist Aminat Adeniyi, Adijat Idris and Odunayo Adekuroye have all booked their tickets to the Olympics.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics will begin on July 23, 2021.
