FALCONS QUALIFY FOR AWC

Nigeria have qualified for the 2016 African Women’s Cup of Nations after defeating Senegal 2-0 at the National Stadium, Abuja yesterday evening.

The SuperFALCONS Falcons reached the finals of the competition courtesy of a 3-1 aggregate score.

Nigeria’s soccer team players run with balls during a training session at the Waverley Soccer Complex in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on June 9, 2015, ahead of their 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup group D football match against Australia to be played on June 12.

After Asisat Oshoala’s early penalty miss, the hosts struck first when Rita Chikwelu finished off a lovely pass from Francesca Ordega, thrashing a shot beyond Senegal goalkeeper Mariane Fall to register her 16th international goal.

Igbinovia Osarenoma sealed victory for Florence Omgabemi’s ladies as Bassouare Diaby’s laboured in vain to claw back to upstage the reigning African Queens. Nigeria join Egypt, Kenya, Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwe and hosts Cameroon.
