EIGHT CLUBS QUALIFY FOR MARCH 29 ANAMBRA SUPER TOURNAMENT

Eight football clubs that made it to the Anambra Football Super 8 tournament finals draw on Wednesday in Awka, the State capital, have declared themselves battle ready for the competition.

The competition scheduled to kick-off at the Chuba Ikpeazu Mini Stadium, Onitsha on March 29, 2021 will feature eight clubs across the state.

The teams are , Smith City FC, Awka; Pope John Paul FC, Okpuno; and Rangels FC, Achina.

Other participating clubs include GP World FC Nnewi; Ifechikwulu FC, Omor; Mecon FC, Umunze; Konti FC Umunnachi; and Golden Boys FC of Onitsha.

In an interview, a member of Anambra State Football Association (AnSFA) and Chairman of the Super 8 Organising Committee, Prince Oliver Ndigwe, said that four teams would qualify for the semi-finals and finals of the tournament.

“It is progress all the way, we organized a seminar for the eight clubs that will participate in the final phase of the competition in order to adequately equip them for future challenges.

“We are through with the match fixtures, every team now know their opponents, so they can get ready for the commencement on 29th of March,2021″ Prince Ndigwe elucidated.

Prince Ndigwe noted that eight players were also unveiled after the draws, as part of the measures put in place to help strengthen the teams through transfers.

According to Prince Ndigwe, they were those who did well during the play-offs, in which 27 grassroots football clubs were drawn from the three senatorial zones in the state.

“We gave opportunities to teams by going on transfers in order for them to be well fortified.

“Normally, the clubs were supposed to have 23 players but we gave them chance to have additional 3 to their sides,” Prince Ndigwe stated.

He also urged the players to maintain discipline and stick to the rules of the game in order to build their careers as well as make a living for themselves.

For her part, the brand manager of Aspire FC Adazi Ani, Chidimma Ezeasor, explained that the tournament was a well articulated measure to drive football, develop talents, build confidence in youths and raise hope for the younger ones aspiring to be professional players.

Ezeasor added that cash prizes await teams, including a Nationwide Division Two slot for the first-place winner.

Meanwhile, the group matches would be played in Onitsha while the grand finale would be at the NEROS stadium, Nanka on April 3.
