The HouseIdris of Representatives yesterday summoned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris over alleged violation of the 2016 Appropriation Act.
The lawmakers specifically accused the IGP of diverting N1.2 billion to purchase 64 Toyota Hiace commuter vehicles instead of 10 armoured personnel carriers for the Nigeria Police Force approved in the Appropriation Act of 2016.

They also accused the police chief of misapplying N6 billion meant for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of 102 police stations nationwide.Adopting a motion sponsored by Mr. Onyenwife Gabriel at the plenary presided over by Speaker Yakubu Dogara, the lawmakers condemned the refusal of the IGP to honour the invitation of the Committee on Police Affairs.
The lawmakers who turned down the request by Gabriel to issue a bench warrant on the IGP, thereby ordered him to appear before the committee on police affairs next Thursday.

Gabriel said the committee invited Idris on December 6 and 13, 2016 in his capacity as the chief executive and accounting officer of the police to explain the aforementioned allegations, but he deliberately refused to honour the invitations.
