The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has rejected the declaration of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) as winner of the December 5 Imo North Senatorial district bye-election.

Addressing a news conference in Owerri, the State Chairman of the Party, Chief Charles Ugwu, said the APC had no candidate in the said election as two candidates continued to lay claim to the party’s ticket.

He described as ridiculous the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare an unnamed candidate of APC as winner of the senatorial election knowing that there were conflicting court orders disqualifying both candidates of the APC as at the eve of the election.

Chief Ugwu noted that the PDP would use every legitimate means to seek redress if INEC failed to declare his party the winner of the election.

The PDP candidate in the election, Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu, urged INEC to declare him winner, noting that parties were never declared winners without a known candidate.

Chief Okewulonu thanked his supporters for voting him in the election and vowed to reclaim the mandate.
