PDP PROTESTS REMOVAL OF CHIEF IHEDIOHA IN OWERRI

Hundreds of members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the twenty seven local government areas of Imo State on Sunday staged a protest in Owerri over the removal of Chief Emeka Ihedioha as the Governor of the state.

The protesters, who were clad in black carried placards with various inscriptions calling on the Supreme Court to review its judgment, which invalidated the election of chief Ihedioha in the March 2019 election with a view to reinstating him as Governor of the state.

Speaking to journalists, the State Secretary of the Party, Nze Ray Emeana described the ruling of the apex court as a miscarriage of justice and vowed to continue the protest until the people were served justice.

Another protester, Mr. Chris Okewulonu, said the people embarked on the peaceful protest as law abiding citizens to compel the Supreme Court to reverse itself, noting that it was not uncommon for the apex court to revisit its ruling.

He stated that residents of the state had started enjoying dividends of democracy since the under ousted Governor Ihedioha and appealed to the apex court to do the needful.

Radio Nigeria observed tha the protest affected vehicular movement within major roads in Owerri as security agents blocked major roads leading to government house and other sensitize assets of the government.
