OPPOSITION PARTY MEMBER CONFIRMED AS COMMISSIONER NOMINEE IN ENUGU STATE

The Enugu State House of Assembly has confirmed a member of the opposition Party, the All Progressive Congress, APC as Commissioner Nominee.

This followed the screening and a motion moved by the Leader of the House, Chief Ikechukwu Ezeugwu.

The House received a letter from the State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi requesting it to confirm Mr Chigozie Okonkwo, member of the APC for commissioner post.

The screening of the nominee lasted for hours as members took turns to ask him questions.

Some members wondered the choice of the member of an opposition party to serve in the state executive council.

Moving a motion for his confirmation, the Leader of the house, Chief Ikechukwu Ezeugwu appealed to members  to consider Mr Okonkwo’s pedigree and the input he was to make in governance.

The speaker of the House, Chief Edward Ubosi commended the members for their friendly disposition in considering the nominee.

Chief Ubosi said the interest of the state was most paramount to the Assembly and expressed the readiness of the sixth Assembly to serve the people better.

The nominee,Mr Okonkwo expressed happiness with the proceedings of the House.

He promised not to disappoint the state.
