NIGERIANS PAINT THE FORMER VICE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA, DR. ALEX EKWUEME IN BRIGHT COLOURS AS HE IS LAID TO REST
The late Vice President of the federal republic of Nigeria has been simply but appropriately described as a man of many parts.
Doctor Alex Ekwueme was a scholar of international repute, a business and a professional icon.
His rise to fame and fortune, started with a humble beginning, at the Saint John’s Anglican Central School Ekwuluobia before he proceeded to King’s College Lagos.
As an awardee of the Fulbright scholarship in the United States of America, he attended the University of Washington, where he earned a bachelor degree in Architecture and City Planning.He went on to obtain a master’s degree in Urban Planning, and a Doctorate degree in Architecture from the University of Strathclyde.
Doctor Ekwueme also earned degrees in Sociology, History, Philosophy and Law from the University of London.The great scholar, also passed through the Nigeria Law school where he gained the Bachelor of law degree.
Doctor Ekwueme’s success in academic attainment and his experiences in private practice, no doubt positively impacted on his public life as the Vice President of the country.
In a glowing tribute to the late Doctor Ekwueme, the President, Umuada Igbo, Lady Kate Ezeofor said, the late former Vice President love for humanity was demonstrated again when he designed the hospital, being constructed by the association free of charge.
Going down the memory lane, the Dean faculty of Management and Social Sciences, Godfrey Okoye University, Emene Enugu, Professor OnyemaOchuoha explained that DrEkwueme’s accomplishments in government was facilitated by his sound academic background.
A former Commissioner in the Old Anambra State, Chief NdukaEyah who once served with the late Ekwueme in the Anambra State Housing Development Authortiy,said he and Dr. Ekwueme perfected the plan to give civil servants in that state affordable houses.
What readily comes to mind when the late Doctor Ekwueme’s name is mentioned? For a former Chairman, Awgu local Government Area of Enugu State, Chief UcheAnioke, it was service to humanity and effective leadership.
Summarizing the submissions on the late Ekwueme the Chairman Enugu State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Chief Paul Nnajiofor and the President, Ohaneze Ndigbo |Enugu State, Chief Alex Ogbonnia urged politicians to imbibe politics without bitterness, which Ekwueme preached.
The late DrIfeanyichukwu Ekwueme who hailed from Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State was a distinguished architect.
Long before he came to national and international limelight as the Vice President of the country, the late Dr Ekwueme had an active educational Trust Fund which sponsored several hundreds of youth to universities in Nigeria.
