LEGAL PRACTITIONER CONDEMNS INVOLVING THE MILITARY DURING ELECTIONS

Nigerians are advised to challenge government’s actions that contravene the nation‘s laws rather than making empty criticisms.

This is the view of a constitutional lawyer, Dr. Godstime Okafor, while speaking on Political Watch, a Radio Nigeria Enugu Zonal Network Programme.

Dr. Okafor pointed out that elected office holders in the country were always having their ways wherever the constitution was breached by their actions due to failure by many Nigerians to Challenge them in court.

The legal Practitioner, who criticized the involvement of the military during elections, noted that if the action was challenged in the court, the government might have rescinded the decision.

Another legal practitioner, Prince Charles Ibe, called on the electorate to mobilize themselves in a peaceful manner during elections to ensure that their collective will was not subverted.

Prince Ibe advised the National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare publicly all collated results, especially in cases where the poll was declared inconclusive, to make the exercise more credible.

Majority of callers into the programme attributed the unwillingness to challenge some government’s actions in court due to the fear that they would be harassed by agents of government.
