INEC REVIEWS CONDUCT OF 2019 GENERAL ELECTION IN ABIA AND EBONYI STATES

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the on-going review of the 2019 General Election across the federation is to improve on future elections.

INEC Supervising National Commissioner in-charge of Ebonyi, Abia and Imo States, Professor Okechukwu Ibeanu, made this known at the opening of the review exercise in Abakaliki.

Professor Ibeanu, who noted that the Commission should be commended for conducting the largest Election on the African continent covering one hundred and fifty thousand voting points, however said there was room for improvement.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ebonyi State, Professor Godswill Obioma explained that the outcome of the review would help in promoting data in future Election processes.

Election template for the review exercise was divided into fourteen topics including security, legal, accessibility, ICT and logistics.

Also, the INEC National Commissioner, Professor Okey Ibeanu was in Umuahia, Abia State for the same election review.

He noted that for election to be free, fair and credible there must be improvement in its process.

Professor Ibeanu maintained that despite some challenges witnessed in the last general election the commission performed optimally saying that every election was a learning process.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner INEC Abia State, Dr. Joseph Iloh, explained that the program was designed to discuss the electoral processes, review challenges and its benefits in order to reinforce for future delivery.

He urged the participants in the program to critically review the security, financial and administrative aspects as well as the application of technology in the last general election.
