INEC READY FOR JANUARY 25 FEDERAL AND STATE CONSTITUENCY ELECTIONS IN IMO

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State says it has concluded arrangement for the smooth conduct of this Saturday’s (25/01/2020) rerun and supplementary elections for federal and state constituencies in the area.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Professor Francis Ezeonu, made this known while briefing journalists ahead of the court-ordered elections.

He said the commission would conduct fresh elections in Okigwe, Onuimo and Isiala Mbano Federal Constituency; supplementary election in some polling units in Orlu Local Government Area for Orlu, Orsu and Oru East Federal Constituency; and thirteen voting points for Njaba State constituency.

Professor Ezeonu said there would be restriction of movement at the areas where elections would take place on Saturday, noting that only political parties that participated in the earlier election for which a rerun or supplementary was ordered would be allowed to contest.

He explained that only smart card readers would be used for accreditation and gave an assurance that technicians would be positioned to take care of card malfunction.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner appealed to communities where Registration Area Camps were located for easy distribution of materials in Okigwe, Onuimo and Isiala Mbano Federal Constituency to be peaceful, warning that security agencies had assured of their readiness to maintain orderliness.

Radio Nigeria gathered from INEC that non sensitive materials for the elections had been deployed to the areas while sensitive documents would depart from the Central Bank on Thursday to the various designated areas.
