INEC fixes Imo, Kogi re-run for July 23

Followin2016_07_01_4815g a Na­tional Stakehold­ers’ Forum on the conclusion of the suspended re-run elec­tions in Rivers, Kogi, Imo and Kano states yesterday at the Shera­ton Hotel and Towers in Abuja, the Indepen­dent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the con­duct of the outstanding re-run elections in Kogi and Imo states for July 23, 2016.
Similarly, the re-run elections in Rivers and Kano states will hold on July 30, 2016.
INEC arrived at dates after a series of consulta­tions which commenced with major stakeholders at the affected states in the court -ordered elec­tions.
The commission met yesterday with the in­volved candidates and their political parties before arriving at the dates.
In a statement issued by INEC yesterday in Abuja, the commission said that it reached an agreement with the po­litical parties and the candidates on the dates and the need to hold peaceful polls.
