INEC BEGINS PREPARATIONS AHEAD OF THE 2019 ELECTIONS

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Ebonyi State has commenced training of its staff on various aspects of Electronic voting system to equip them ahead of 2019 General elections.

Speaking with journalists in Abakaliki, on the training programme, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Professor Godswill Obioma said that the measure was part of the efforts of the Commission to improve the capacity of staff and enhance the electoral process in the state.

“We need to be IT (Information Technology) compliant and you recall that you use the card reader, we use electronic platform, they talk about server, think about transmitting results online and now we are thinking of electronic voting, tend to reduce inefficiency, weed out corruption and then assuage us in our integrity to run election.”

He emphasized the need for all INEC staff to take advantage of ICT training to equip them electronically.

Professor Obioma expressed optimism that the Electronic voting system which had received the approval of the Apex legislature in the country would boost the nation’s Electoral process.
