HOUSE BOY INJURED IN THE EYE FOR STEALING BISCUIT AND JUICE

The Enugu State Government has promised to ensure that justice is done in the case of alleged abuse of an eleven year old Chidera Eze from Obinofia-Ndiagu in Ezeagu Local Government Area by his guardian.

Last week, Master Chidera Eze, a class four pupil of Achara Layout Primary School, and house-help was badly injured in left eye by his guardian for allegedly stealing a biscuit from his Madam’s wardrobe and a can of juice from his master’s cupboard.

Addressing journalists in Enugu, the State Commissioner for Gender Affairs and Social Development, Princes Peace Nnaji said on receiving the report, the Ministry swung into action and rescued the child, who was also hit in the right eye with a fork by one of the children of her guardian.

She explained that the Ministry took the child to Enugu State Teaching Hospital, Parklane for urgent medical attention.

Princes Nnaji promised that government would ensure that Justice was done in the matter.

Responding to questions from journalists, the guardian of the boy and business man from Ndi-ikelionwu in Orumba North Local Government of Anambra State, Mr. Chidera Okeke, claimed he exhausted his cane, which was why he spanked the boy with bare hands.

Also, the wife, Mrs. Chinasa Okeke, a Staff of Federal College of Agriculture, Isiagu in Ivo, Ebonyi State, confirmed what her husband said.

The Father of the boy, Mr. Emmanuel Eze of Obinagu-Ndiagu in Ezeagu Local Government, who spoken in Igbo language said he willingly gave out his child to the family to assist them in doing domestic jobs without knowing he was sending his son to where he would be tortured and physically abused.

Our correspondent quotes the Commissioner as saying that the child would continue to receive treatment pending when his sight was fully restored, and promised the Ministry would foot the medical bills of the boy.
