GOV. UMAHI ENDORSES PETER OBI’S VP CANDIDACY, INSISTS ON MEETING WITH ATIKU

Vice Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has solicited the support of South East leaders to succeed in his recent nomination.

Mr. Obi made the call when he paid a courtesy visit to Chairman South East Governor’s Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, at Government House Abakaliki.

Mr. Obi described his nomination as a surprise but emphasised that those who had misgivings over the process through which he emerged were right as they ought to have been carried along.

” let no body think that the leaders of this zone, they are only against the process which they have the right to do and I have come home to assure them that this position was not personal to me, it’s for the people of the entire South East and for it to succeed they will have to support it,” Obi stated.

Governor Umahi noted that no Igbo leader questioned the qualification of Mr. Peter Obi as Vice Presidential candidate but only frowned on the selection process, which excluded some states in the zone from sending names of nominees.

He insisted that Igbo leaders must meet with the Presidential candidate of the Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to discuss how Ndigbo would benefit from his administration if he wins.

“we will give you support but we must sit down with out Presidential candidate and discuss, that they appointed you Vice Presidential candidate is our right because Igbos have been so marginalised and chased out of every position they occupied,” Umahi insisted.

Chief Umahi congratulated Mr. Obi on his nomination and assured him of the support of Igbo leaders.
