COURT AFFIRMS CHIMAROKE AS AUTHENTIC PDP ENUGU EAST SENATORIAL CANDIDATE

igh Court in Enugu has dismissed the suit challenging Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani as the authentic candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 General Election for Enugu East Senatorial District.
The Applicant and Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial Zone, Prince Gilbert Nnaji, was asking Court to declare him the rightful winner of the PDP National Assembly Primary election, arguing that Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani did not participate in the screening exercise conducted by the Party.
He also, among other allegations, stated that Dr. Nnamani was not present during the Primary election held in Agbani.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Ibrahim Buba stated that the Applicant, Senator Gilbert Nnaji, failed to institute the case 15 days after the screening exercise as stipulated by law and has also failed to convince the Court beyond reasonable doubt that Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani did not participate in the screening.
The Judge also pointed out that the result of the Primary election tendered as exhibit by Senator Nnaji, which showed that he came second, was different from the one tendered by the Party (PDP) where he came fourth.
Justice Buba therefore, affirmed that Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani was duly elected by the Party and described the suit filed by Senator Nnaji as “status bad.”
In an interview with Radio Nigeria, Counsel to the Plaintiff, Onyinye Mbanefo, and that of the defendant, C.B. Anyaigbo, commended the judgment.
