BE DIPLOMATIC AND REACH OUT TO OTHER ETHNIC GROUPS TO ATTAIN POLITICAL RELEVANCE IN NIGERIA: APC CHIEFTAIN ADVICES IGBOS

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Chief Mathias Omeh, has advised the Igbo nation to be diplomatic and reach out to other ethnic groups to enable it attain its political relevance in the country.

Chief Omeh gave the advice while contributing to “Political Watch,” a Radio Nigeria Enugu Zonal Network Programme on the topic “Igbos and Politics in Nigeria.”

He called on Pan Igbo groups, including the Ohaneze Ndigbo, to avoid endorsement of political parties or candidates and concentrate more on primary role of working for the interest of the Igbos.

Another guest on the programme and Chairman Labour Party, Enugu State, Dr. Gerald Abonyi, pointed out that the outcome of 2019 election was an indication that Igbos were a united people in terms of followership and respect of their leaders.

Dr. Abonyi described Igbos as people who had distinguished themselves in different sectors that could not be taken for granted in the scheme of things in the country.

Dr. Abonyi, who is Coordinator of Alliance Parties for Democratic Dividend advised all the ethnic groups in the country to produce next President of the country in the spirit of equity.

Some callers in the programme pointed out that the republican nature of Igbos was a major hindrance to the people’s quest for improved political relevance in the country.
