ADC CANDIDATE DRAGS INEC TO COURT OVER OBI IN ANAMBRA CENTRAL

The controversObiy trailing the rerun of the Anambra Central senatorial election has taken a new dimension, with the candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in last year’s election, Comrade Anayo Nweke dragging the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to court, urging it to stop former Governor Peter Obi from participating in the election. I have no ambition to go to senate.

The ADC candidate also wants the Federal High Court sitting in Awka to restrain INEC from fixing a date and conducting any fresh election for Anambra Central without concluding the pending appeal between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Chief Victor Umeh, the candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the zone.

In the suit number FHC/Awk/CS/69/2016 dated 12th April, 2016, the plaintiff sought for a declaration that it is only the candidates/political parties that participated in the first election that can participate in the fresh election as ordered by the Court of Appeal, Enugu Judicial division. He also sought for a declaration that INEC cannot validly conduct a fresh election in Anambra Central Senatorial district for the 2015 election without concluding the appeal in the matter between PDP and Umeh.
