ABIA ASSEMBLY SUSPENDS ABSU’S NEW ACCEPTANCE FEES

The Abia State House of Assembly has directed the management of Abia State University, Uturu to suspend the collection of the recently increased Acceptance Fees from intending students until the conclusion of investigation by the House Committee on Education.

The House also urged its committee on education to conduct investigations and report back to it by Monday next week.

The resolutions followed a matter of urgent public importance raised during plenary by the member representing Isialangwa North Constituency, Chief Ginger Onwusibe.

Chief Onwusibe alleged that the institution had increased its Acceptance Fees from Sixty thousand naira to one hundred and fifty thousand naira for professional courses and from forty-five thousand to one hundred thousand naira for non professional courses.

He prayed the house to intervene in the matter as the increment could create more hardship on the people.

The house during plenary also received the report from the adhoc committee set up to investigate the abandonment of housing projects in the state and was committed to the committee of the whole for further considerations.

Meanwhile Radio gathered that the two remaining commissioner nominees, Professor Ikechi Mgbeoji and Dr. Bob Ogu, were screened.
