2019 ELECTIONS: VOTE CREDIBLE CANDIDATES, NOT PARTIES …

Electorate in the forthcoming elections in the country should think beyond the popularity of big parties and only vote candidates who have workable programmes that can transform the country.

This is the view of participants in the Radio Nigeria Enugu zonal political programme, Political Watch.

One of the discussants, a member of the media team of the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship election in Enugu State, Mr. Frank Okah, condemned the steady increase in political parties in the country.

Mr. Okah stated that such rise in the number of parties would give older parties, which he said had underperformed, better chances of success in the forthcoming general election.

He advocated synergy among the newer parties to strengthen their chances in the election.

Contributing, the Vice Chairman of the Young Progressive Party, (YPP), Mr. Joel Agu, maintained that there was no small political party in the nation as all of them have offices in all states of the federation.

Mr. Agu disagreed with the suggestion that newer party should join forces to have a fair chance of improving their fortunes in the election, saying that the new parties sprang up to correct the ills which older and bigger parties could not tackle.

Some callers in the programme collaborated the view of one of the guests that new parties should merge to improve their chances in the election while others called for national re-orientation to change attitudes and thinking of electorate to vote only individuals that are patriotic and protect the general interest of Nigerians.
