YULETIDE CELEBRATION: 8 DEAD, 135 INJURED IN 19 AUTO CRASHES IN ABIA — FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Abia State Sector Command says a total of nineteen crashes were recorded during the Christmas and New year celebration in the state.

The Sector Commmder FRSC in the state, Mr. Meschach Jatau, dropped the hint while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Umuahia.

He noted that eight persons lost their lives in the crashes while one hundred and thirty five persons sustained various degrees of injuries from the crashes.

Mr. Jatau stated that the causes of the crashes could be traced to over speeding, reckless driving, burst tyres and dangerous overtaking by the drivers.

On the level of compliance with the installation of speed limiter devices in commercial vehicles in the state, the FRSC sector commander said that the compliance was high as many fleet operators had realized the importance of having the device in their vehicles for safety and speed regulations.

He advised motorists to always drive with caution and obey traffic rules and regulations while on the road.
