REPORTER: JOHN MADUAGWU
Police SWAT TEAM in Aba, Abia State has arrested a woman identified as Adaeze Lawrence for allegedly abducting a one month old child belonging to her friend’s sister.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Police Command, Mrs. Maureen Chinaka, who made this known in a statement, alleged that Adaeze abducted the baby from the residence of one Onyinyechi Gift Osujie situated at 5 Cricke Road, Aba.
According to the statement, the suspect took advantage of her closeness to the elder sister of the baby’s mother to gain the trust of the family and under the pretence of celebrating with the family, absconded with the baby.
The statement noted that even after being arrested, Adaeze Lawrence denied the crime, but medical examinations from the police clinic disproved her claims, leading to her confession while the child’s biological mother positively identified the baby, confirming the abduction on August 6, 2023.
It enjoined the public to maintain constant supervision of children and exercise caution when strangers take an interest in their children, especially in public places.
The statement added that investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
