The Executive Secretary, Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Dr. Chioma Ejikeme, has expressed the confidence that President Bola Tinubu will continue to make pension payment a top priority in his administration.

Dr. Ejikeme gave the assurance during a two-day Stakeholders’ Engagement Summit organized by the Directorate for the South East Pensioners in Awka, Anambra State.

She expressed the hope that President Tinubu’s administration would give pension payment a priority.

This, she said, was in view of his well-known and commendable antecedents in pension matters to ensure that senior citizens’ welfare were well taken care of in the country.

Dr. Ejikeme stated that the Directorate had on April 14, 2023 rolled out what it called a game changer, “I AM ALIVE CONFIRMATION” solution to be used by Pensioners after it had been tested.

The Executive Secretary, who appealed to pensioners to access the application, said the Directorate had trained its staff to assist pensioners who would be unable to carry out the confirmation on their own.

She said one of the achievements of the Directorate was the complete liquidation of the inherited liabilities of all the defunct and privatized agencies handed over to it in 2017 except NITEL/MTEL with a balance of 36 months, which the organization was fully committed to liquidate.

Dr. Ejikeme also said the commitment of PTAD to the welfare of pensioners remained sacrosanct, stressing that it would continue the engagement with various Pension Unions to ensure quality service delivery.

In her speech, the Director, Pensioner Support Services Department, Mrs. Nneka Obiamalu, said one of the problems the organisation encountered initially was the aggressive nature of pensioners as a result of lack of trust based on mistakes made in the payment of their pensions.

Mrs. Obiamalu explained that the Directorate had paid a total of #754,000,000,000 (seven hundred and fifty four billion naira) between the January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2022 as monthly pensions.

The National President of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Mr. Godwin Abumisi, commended the staff of PTAD for their untiring efforts in ensuring that pensioners received their pension promptly.

Mr. Abumisi pleaded with the Federal Government to retain all the staff of the organization because of their commitment and creativity.

Some of the Federal Government Pensioners across the South East attended the event.
