WE HAVE ABOUT 140,000 UNCOLLECTED PVCS IN IMO — INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has about 140,000 uncollected permanent voter cards ready for distribution in Imo State.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Professor Sylvia Agu, disclosed this at the opening of a two day capacity building of Electoral Officers in Owerri, the state capital.

She said the commission had about 6,000 bimodal voter accreditation system (BIVAS) ready for deployment in the conduct of November 11 governorship election in Imo State.

Professor Agu explained that non sensitive materials for the exercise were also being assembled while sensitization of the electorate was already in progress to ensure smooth conduct of the election.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner said the process of recruiting adhoc personnel for the election had commenced and urged the participants to take advantage of the training to acquaint themselves with new reforms that had taken place in the commission.

The INEC National Commissioner in charge of Electoral Operations and Logistics Committee, Dr. Baba Bila, noted that the commission had adopted strategies that would guarantee free, fair and credible poll in the off circle election.

He noted that views expressed would assist the commission to take proactive measures that would ensure seamless outing.
