Senior Secondary School Examination has kick started in Ebonyi State with participating schools and students strictly observing the COVID -19 protocol initiated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Ebonyi State Government.

Two hundred and twenty eight Secondary Schools in the State are taking part in the Examination being conducted by West African Examination Council in the country. The State Government had two weeks ago distributed hand sanitizers and face masks to students and teachers preparatory to the conduct of the examination while the premises of two hundred and twenty eight schools being used for the exercise were also fumigated.

A visit to some of the schools in Abakaliki including Nnodo Secondary School and Abakaliki High School showed that there was strict compliance with COVID- 19 protocol as the students sat two metres apart, for mathematics which was their first paper.

One of them, Miss Chidinma Ude commended the Government for putting in place safety measures emphasising that they had prepared adequately for the Examination.

Another student, Master Victor Eze expressed happiness that the Examination finally commenced against all odds pointing out that COVID -19 lockdown which delayed the exercise was a blessing in disguise.

The Principal of Nnodo Secondary School, Chief Buguma Eze and his counterpart at Abakaliki High School, Mr Donatus Ovuoba explained that the students were properly sensitized on Hall management and confidence building to make them perform better.

The State Commissioner for Education, Dr Onyebuchi Chima said he was impressed with the conduct of the students and teachers and assured them of the State Government’s commitment towards ensuring a hitch free Examination.  Health workers were deployed to schools to ensure that temperature of students were checked before being allowed into the Halls.
