VACCINATE YOUR PETS: EBONYI STATE GOVERNMENT DIRECTS RESIDENTS

Ebonyi Government has ordered owners of cats and dogs in the state to vaccinate them against rabies disease.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Chief Moses Nome, who made this known in a statement, emphasized need for the vaccination.
According to Chief Nomeh the vaccination is to prevent the transmission of rabies through the pets to humans and keep the State free from the disease.
“All dogs and cats owners who have not vaccinated their pets should do so immediately by visiting the veterinary centres in the State,” Chief Nome stated.
The centres are for the vaccination are in Abakaiki, Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone; Onueke, for Ebonyi Central Zone; and Afikpo for Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone
Meanwhile, the State Government also assured residents of effective containing of the yellow fever disease reported in some parts of Izzi Local Government Area.
A statement by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike, urged the residents not to panic over the situation as the State Ministry of Health, in conjunction with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), among other partners, had put measures in place to contain and eradicate the disease.
According to the statement, “citizens are however enjoined to continue adopting preventive measures on the disease, which include: sleeping inside insecticide treated nets and keeping their surroundings clean, among others.”
