UMAHI WINS APPEAL, DESCRIBES JUDICIARY AS HOPE OF ALL SEEKERS OF JUSTICE

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

An Appeal Court sitting in Abuja has affirmed Governor David Umahi as the duly nominated All Progressives Congress Senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South District in next year’s election.

In a Judgment delivered by Justice Stephen Adah, the Court dismissed an appeal filed by Mrs. Ann Agom-Eze, challenging Umahi’s emergence as the APC candidate for the election.

The Court also set aside the judgment of the Federal High court and all the orders it made pursuant to determining the authentic candidate of APC for Ebonyi South.

It also held that the lower court erred by upholding Mrs. Agom-Eze’s counter-affidavit but failed to uphold the primary election of June 9, 2022, where Umahi was elected as the APC senatorial candidate.

It maintained that Umahi’s election was not challenged by anyone within 14 days as prescribed by section 285 (9) of the 1999 constitution.

Reacting to the Judgment, Governor David Umahi commended the judiciary for its forthrightness and dependability as an impartial arbiter in human conflicts.

In a statement by his Media Aide, Mr.Chooks Oko, Governor Umahi described his victory as the will of God and appreciated the residents of the Senatorial district and the entire state for their prayers and steadfastness.

He noted that the Court had once again, asserted its inviolate position as the hope of all seekers of justice.

The Governor used the opportunity to restate his avowed commitment to offer the best Senatorial representation to the good people of the district and advance the cause of the Igbo nation and disadvantaged Nigerians.
