REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

The National Population Commission (NPC) says it will carryout the recruitment of about one million personnel that will participate in 2023 National Census electronically.

The NPC Federal Commissioner in charge of Ebonyi State, Chief Darlington Okereke, gave the indication while briefing journalists on preparations for the state trial census in Abakaliki.

He noted that the Trial Census would provide an opportunity to test the feasibility of the e-recruitment, which would be geo fenced to only the selected areas.

“Census is a massive operation, which involves the engagement of over one million personnel and managing such huge workforce manually will raise huge logistical and documentation challenges.

“It is in recognition of this fact that the Commission resolved that the recruitment for the 2023 Census will be done electronically,” he said.

Chief Okereke said one local government area in each geo political zone had been selected for full enumeration process across the country while nine Local Government Areas in Ebonyi State were among several others chosen for supervisory area enumeration.

“One supervisory area in three LGAs in each of the three senatorial districts in the remaining (30)states and the FCT. The Nine Local Government Areas selected in Ebonyi State include: Abakaliki, Izzi, Ohaukwu, Ezza South, Ezza North, Ishielu, Afikpo North, Onicha and Ivo Local Government Area,” he stated.

Chief Okereke called on community leaders where the exercise would take place to provide support where necessary for its success.
