TRANSFORMER ROBBER ELECTROCUTED IN ANAMBRA AS RELATIVE CLAIMS INSANITY

A middle aged man has met his Waterloo when he was electrocuted while trying to vandalise cables belonging to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), Sunday morning at Ezinifite Community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The man, whose identity is yet to be known, allegedly wanted to vandalise a transformer when the armoured cable exploded and killed him.

Residents of the area, who met the victim hanging on the transformer, immediately alerted police division in Aguata who responded promptly.

The police team however rushed the suspect to General Hospital Aguata where he was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor on duty.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, said the EEDC authorities had been contacted while investigation had also commenced to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, Mr. the PPRO later in a press statement said that one Mrs. Eunice Mmoma from Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government area had identified the deceased as Onyeka Adennu.

The statement explaind that Mrs. Mmoma approached the Aguata Division of the Nigerian Police in company of one Mr. Emmanuel Offor, who claimed to be the owner of a church ministry in Ezinifite.

Mrs. Mmoma claimed that the electrocuted suspect was her brother and had mental problem before the incident.

The police statement indicated that the woman said she attended a church programme with the deceased on Saturday at Ezinifite before he suddenly disappeared at about two o’clock Sunday morning shortly after the programme.

The statement added that effort was ongoing to ascertain the veracity of her claim.

In the meantime Radio Nigeria gathered that the corpse of the victim had been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.
