TECHNICAL ASSISTANT TO GOV UMAHI, TWO OTHERS ARRAIGNED FOR ALLEGED #3.6BN FRAUD

The Department of State Security Service (DSS) has arraigned a Technical Assistant to Governor David Umahi and two other suspects before an Abakaliki Magistrate Court for alleged attempt to defraud Ebonyi State Government the sum of three point six billion Naira.

They were alleged to have approached Governor Umahi during the Yuletide at his home town, Uburu, and claimed they were representatives of a foreign company and had One hundred and twenty five million US dollars to give to the State Government.

They allegedly told the Governor that condition for smooth receipt of the fund was if there was up to ten million Dollars in the State Government’s Bank account.

The suspects, whose names were given as Precious Orji Nnachi, Obinna Agummuo and Chuks Ajunwa, were arraigned on six count charge bothering on felony and attempt to defraud.

DSS Prosecutor, Mr. Njoku, told the Margistrate court that the offence was punishable under sections 516A, 509 and 484 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ebonyi State.

After taking their plea, the Chief Magistrate, Nnanna Onuoha, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of five hundred million Naira each, with three sureties in like sum.

The matter was adjourned to February 5, 2020, for hearing.
