TANKER EXPLOSION KILLS A WELDER ON DUTY IN OGBUNIKE, ANAMBRA

A middle aged man has died after a heavy explosion in a mechanic workshop at the defunct toll gate axis, Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident occurred when the deceased, a welder, whose name was simply given as Mr. Richard, was on top of an empty fuel truck trying to weld the upper compartment.

An eyewitness narrated that all of a sudden the tanker exploded and threw him about two hundred meters away leaving him unconscious.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Haruna Mohammed in a statement noted that the scene was visited and the victim was rushed to Iyienu Teaching Hospital for treatment but was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

The statement indicated that the corpse had been deposited at the hospital mortuary.

According to the statement, investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The late welder whose sure name is yet to be known is said to be an indigene of Ebonyi State.
