This is because they maybe required to show evidence of vaccination before entry into public offices, including places of primary assignment.

The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, made this known in a message to the swearing-in of corps members for the 2021 Batch ‘C’, Stream II Orientation Course held at the permanent orentation camp Awgu, Enugu State.

The NYSC Director General, represented by the Enugu State Coordinator, Mr. Sam Ujogu, called on corps members yet to take the vaccine to avail themselves of the vaccination process before they embark on their primary assignments.

He maintained that the move became necessary following the latest Federal Government’s directive for all civil servants to have evidence of COVID-19 vaccination as prerequisite for entry to public offices.

“I therefore, encourage those of you, who are yet to take the vaccine, to do so without further delay as the rule could apply to corps members in their places of Primary Assignment.

“We are already in touch with the relevant authorities with a view to ensuring that the vaccines are made available to you in the course of this program,” he said.

The NYSC boss further encouraged the corps members to participate actively in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program to equip themselves with relevant skills to thrive in the present society.

Earlier, while administering the oath of allegiance on the corps members, the Chief Judge of Enugu State, represented by Justice Anthony Onovo, encouraged the corps members to contribute to the development of the country.

“As you have been officially inaugurated as youth corps members, ensure you contribute your quota to the progress of Nigeria. The country is presently bedeviled by economic hardship, and I urge you to play a vital role in contributing to the development of the country and not found culpable in any form that will mar the image of our beloved country,” the Chief Judge appealed.

The corps members while pledging their commitment to serve, said they would discharge their duties, which fall within the ambit of the NYSC act and by-laws.

1,875 youth corps members were sworn-in, comprising 884 males and 991 females.
