SUSPECTED CHILD TRAFFICKERS NABBED IN EBONYI, 2 BABIES RECOVERED

Two babies, about one week old, have been rescued by security operatives while being trafficked to Lagos State by two suspected traffickers now in custody at Ebonyi State Police Command.

The suspects who gave their names as Achibong from Akwaibom state and Blessing Akpan from Cross River State hid the babies in two sacks and were en route Ugep-Abomege Expressway from Calabar when a Sienna Bus conveying them were flagged down for search by Ebubeagu Security Outfit.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Loveth Odah, said one of the suspects confessed that she was being taken to Lagos to sell her unborn baby to a waiting buyer.

The Director Child Development in the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr. Godwin Igwe explained that the babies had been taken to Neonatal and New Born Ward in Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki for medical attention.

Meanwhile the police spokesperson in Ebonyi, Mrs. Oda said that the suspects would be taken to court after investigations.
