More than one thousand rural women in Imo State have benefitted from the Federal Government’s special cash grant programme aimed at alleviating poverty among vulnerable persons in the society.

At the commencement of the disbursement of twenty thousand naira each to women in Owerri, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk, explained that the grant was one of the measures by the Buhari led administration to lift one hundred million persons out of poverty in the next ten years.

The Minister said the one-off grant was expected to increase access to financial capital required for economic activities, especially in the grassroots.

Hajiya Umar Farouk charged the beneficiaries to utilize the grant by increasing their income, enhance food security and improve their standard of living.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Mrs. Centenary Osuji from Isiala Mbano and Mrs. Virginia Ukarie thanked the Federal Government for the gesture, noting that the amount would help them to boost their petty business.

About one hundred and fifty thousand rural women are targeted under the programme in all the states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
