A Conglomeration of Igbo youth groups has called for an end to hostilities, which have been going on in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State in recent times.

Addressing a joint news conference in Owerri, the President General, Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, Mr. Goodluck Egwuibem, lamented that the crisis had led to loss of lives and destruction of property in the area.

He noted that the peace and security of Ndigbo could not be compromised and called on those involved in the violence to sheath their sword and use dialogue in resolving whatever differences they had.

Mr. Egwuibem said there were indications that some selfish individuals were inciting violence in Imo West Senatorial District and cautioned the youth against making themselves willing tools to unleash mayhem.

Mr. Egwuibem, while commending Governor Hope Uzodinma for his efforts so far in restoring peace in the area, appealed to him to discourage unnecessary show of force in the area to return sanity to Orlu.

He further called on security operatives to exhibit high level of professionalism and restraint in the interest of peace.

The youth leaders appealed to elders and the elite from the south east region to lend their voices to the ugly situation in Orlu, noting that it was not the time to play politics.
