SOUTH EAST GOVS FORUM WADES INTO ROCHAS-UZODIMMA RIFT

The South East Governors Forum says it has waded into the open confrontation involving Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and the immediate past Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha over a disputed property.

The Imo State Government had last Friday sealed the contentious estate, claiming the Senator ought not to build there as area was designated a green vegetation.

However, the social media were on Sunday awash with an alleged unsealing of the property by Senator Okorocha and his men, prompting a retaliatory attack on the former Governor’s convoy by suspected thugs.

The incident resulted in the arrest of the Senator by the police.

A statement by the Chairman of South East Governors Forum, Chief David Umahi explained that the parties had agreed to a truce to pave way for a resolution on the disputed ownership of an estate which is at the centre of the crisis.

The statement, which was issued by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Francis Nwaze, emphasised that the leaders of Southeast were capable of settling the matter and urged both parties to sheathe their swords.

The statement further appealed for calm among supporters of the two political heavyweights to ensure a timely and amicable resolution of the disagreement within the shortest possible time.
