SMEDAN TO EMPOWER ABIA YOUTHS TRAINED IN VOCATIONAL SKILLS

The Director General Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) Mr. Olawale Fasanya, says the development of the National Business Skills Development Initiative is to provide enterpreneurship and vocational skills as well as provision of empowerment materials to fill the capacity gap among youths.

Mr. Fasanya stated this in a message to the opening of the Natioal Business Skills Development Initiative in Umuahia, Abia State.

The SMEDAN boss represented by a Director in the agency, Mrs. Ime Andy, said that the programme was being implemented in all the states of the federation and three thousand, three hundred and thirty entrepreneurs would be impacted with entrepreneurship skills and empowerment materials.

He noted that at the end of the programme, the expected outcome would include improved business management practice, service provision by trained artisans, increase access to finance, equipment and other business resource as well as increase patronage of Nigerian artisans.

Mr. Fasanya assured all stakeholders that the agency would continue to support all entrepreneurs in the country in ensuring that they achieved the Micro Small and Medium Entreprises sub-sector dream in the areas of job creation and poverty alleviation.

In a remark the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises in Abia State, Mr. Nkwachukwu Agomuoh, noted that the state would continue to identify with the agency in all its programmes.

He commended SMEDAN for embarking on the training of youths in various skills acquisition, pointing out that through the establishment of one-stop-shop by the state government, entrepreneurs could now scale-up their businesses in the state

Some of the participants, in an interview, expressed joy for being part of programme.

Over ninety youths under various skills are participating in the five day training programme.
