A former Commissioner for Transport, Enugu State, Pastor Beloved-Dan Anike, has stressed the need for youths to imbibe the right skills that would help them meet the present economic challenges and achieve their full potential.
Pastor Anike made this known while commenting on the celebration of the World Youth Skills Day.
Pastor Anike, who is a youth advocate, collaborated the submissions of the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, that “equipping young people with quality education, training and skills is essential for their self sustenance and contributing to family and societal development.”
Pastor Anike noted that Technical and Vocational Education and training are well placed to reduce barriers to employment and opportunities.
In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared July 15 as World Youth Skills Day, to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.
The theme for World Youth Skills Day 2023 is Skilling teachers, trainers and youth for a transformative future.
It highlights the essential role that teachers, trainers and other educators play in providing skills for youth to transition to the labour market and to actively engage in their communities and societies.
