SIT-AT-HOME ORDER: HOODLUMS SET FOOD STUFF VEHICLE ABLAZE IN ENUGU

REPORTER: CHRIS NWANGENE

Unknown persons believed to be enforcing the Monday sit-at-home order have again set a vehicle ablaze in Enugu.

The vehicle, which was loaded with tomatoes, vegetables and other foodstuffs, was said to be conveying the items to Enugu when it was set ablaze.

The incident occurred early Monday morning despite the suspension of the sit-at-home order by the leadership of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the southeast zone.

The vehicle was set ablaze at Edem Junction Ibeagwa, Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area.

When contacted, the Chief Fire Officer, Enugu State Fire Service, Mr. Okwudili Daniel Ohaa, said he was awaiting report from his men who were at the scene of the incident.

However, the Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Enugu State Command, Mr. Denny-manuel Iwuchukwu, confirmed the incident but noted that no life was lost.

The NSCDC spokesman said the incident occurred around 5am on Monday and the affected vehicle was a bus carrying mostly bags of tomatoes.

He said eyewitnesses reported that a group of men who attacked the vehicle did not wear any uniform.

According to Mr. Iwuchukwu a Sienna mini van was set ablaze almost at the same spot about two weeks ago.

Some businesses and commercial activities last Monday resumed but a shootout later that day in some areas in Enugu may have forced residents to retreat and continue with the sit-at-home.

The leadership of IPOB has severally announced an end to the Monday sit-at-home order but some hoodlums have insisted it must continue until Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is released.

Recalled that on September 6, 2021, a trailer loaded with motorcycle spare parts was set ablaze by unknown persons believed to be enforcing the IPOB sit-at-home order in Enugu state.o

The incident happened at Eluagu Obukpa, in Nsukka Local Government around 7am.
