SHUN VIOLENCE: IMOS STATE TRADITIONAL RULERS TELL CANDIDATES IN SATURDAY’S ELECTION

Traditional rulers in Imo State want candidates for this Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections to eschew violence during and after the polls.

The Chairman Council of Traditional Rulers in the State Eze Samuel Ohiri gave the charge in a forum organized for governorship candidates in the State.

He appealed to politicians to avoid desperation.

Eze Ohiri said the essence of the meeting was to rob minds with candidates, and get their commitments on ways to sustain the peace currently enjoyed in the State.

He gave an assurance that the traditional institution would maintain neutrality to all their subjects contesting various positions.

A former Governor of the State Chief Ikedi Ohakim called on youths not to make themselves available to those wishing to disrupt the elections.

Chief Ohakim who is seeking a second tenure under the platform of the Accord Party advised the Independent National Electoral Commission to pay more attention to the conduct of their staff especially the ad-hoc workers to ensure free fair and credible polls.

He alleged that some ad-hoc staff connived with politicians to subvert the will of the people during collation of results.
