SECURITY FORCES KILL EIGHT GUNMEN IN ORLU, IMO STATE

At least eight unknown gunmen have been killed by security agents in a shootout that took place on Thursday night in Orlu, Orlu Local Hovernment Area of Imo State.
The men were said to have attempted to attack the Police Area Command headquarters and Divisional Police station located in the same compound but were successfully repelled by a combined team of Police, military and Department of State Security.
Displaying the corpses of the hoodlums before journalists at the Police headquarters in Owerri, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Mr. Abutu Yaro, said some of the gunmen escaped with bullet wounds after gun duel that ensued between them and security operatives.
Mr. Yaro however noted that four security agents sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire.
Mr. Yaro said law enforcement agents were determined to reduce the current challenges facing the state to the barest and cautioned the youths against engaging in unlawful acts.
Items said to have been recovered from the gunmen were AK47 rifles, one pump action gun, charms and seven vehicles used in the operation.
Our Correspondent who accompanied security personnel to the scene of the incident reports that the major roads in Orlu are deserted as shops and offices in the area are under lock apparently for fear of the unknown.
