SAD BOXING DAY AS AUTO CRASH CLAIMS 11 LIVES IN ANAMBRA

Eleven People have lost their lives in a multiple motor accident on Agulu lake bridge, Aulu in Anaocha Local Hovernment Area of Anambra State. The sad incident, which occurred at about 3:45pm on Sunday involved three vehicles. An eye witness narrated that the driver of one of the buses, who was on speed, wrongfully overtook a vehicle before colliding with a heavy duty truck.

According to the witness, another shuttle bus carrying commuters immediately rammed unto the two collided vehicles leading to fire incident. The occupants of the vehicles shouted for help while the  fire ragged on.  He noted that the situation caused panic in the area as other commuters started scampering  for alternative routes.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State, Adeoye Irelewuyi, in a statement signed by the Acting Public Education Officer, Magret Onabe, said 20 passengers were involved in the crash. The statement noted that seven people, who were trapped inside the L300 bus, were burnt beyond recognition while four out of the victims rushed to hospital were confirmed dead by a medical expert.

The statement urged motorists to ensure the road is clear before overtaking and also maintain stipulated speed limits. As at the time of filling this report, men of the FRSC were still on ground trying to clear the debris and make the road motorable.
