REASONS FOR SOUTH EAST AGITATIONS ARE GERMANE — GOV UMAHI

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has called for equity and justice in the nation’s polity as a panacea to the growing secessionist agitations in some parts of the country.

He made the call at the grand finale of eight day prayer and fasting programme declared by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for God’s intervention in the security situation in Nigeria held at Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki.

Chief Umahi emphasised that though he believed in a united Nigeria, some issues being raised by the people of the zone were germane and should be addressed.

“I do not believe in second-class citizenship where a section of the country is being seen to be superior to others.

“We are all created by God and no one should talk of disintegrating the country,” he said.

Governor Umehi said he was willing to lead other Igbo leaders to interface with the Federal Government on the grievances of Ndigbo if they present them to him.

“I want Igbos to submit these agitations and I would lead the governors and leaders of the zone to the centre to address these grievances.

“The groups can then do what they like if after six months, we fail to address these grievances,” he stated.

Governor Umahi appealed to aggrieved youths to shun violence and destruction of public property as it could aggravate the situation at hand.
