POLICE RESCUE THREE ABDUCTED CHILDREN IN EBONYI

Reporter : AMECHI ODO

Police in Ebonyi State have rescued two underaged siblings whose names were given as Tochukwu and Wisdom after being abducted by two suspects who specialize in child trafficking and heinous crimes.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, Mrs. Loveth Oda, explained that the children aged five and four were rescued when the syndicate was busted at Nkaliki area of Abakaliki.

The identities of two suspects behind the abduction of the children were not made available to journalists as Mrs. Oda said it would jeopardise ongoing efforts to recover other children allegedly abducted and sold by them.

The PPRO explained that luck ran out on the suspects when a tricycle operator conveying them to Abakaliki observed that the two children in their company looked ruffled and dirty.

She noted that the operator immediately invited the police, who on cross examination, discovered that the suspects were liable to the crime.

The Father of the rescued siblings, Mr. Ogbonnaya Eze, said his children were asked to go and buy biscuits at a nearby kiosk in his village Agubia in Ikwo Local Government Area when they went missing.

Mr. Eze noted that he got to know that they were rescued and kept at Police Headquarters through facebook.

Also rescued by the police was an eight year old girl who identified one of the suspects as the person behind her own abduction.

According to the little girl, who gave her name as Apulu, she and her younger brother were abducted from their home at Oguzoronweya Igbeagu in Izzi Local Government Area but while she was later abandoned in Enugu, the female suspect disappeared with her brother.

Police said investigations were on to rescue the trafficked boy while the suspects would be arraigned in court.
