The Imo State Police Command says it has arrested one of the alleged killers of a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Ahmed Gulak who was shot on his way to the Sam Mbakwe airport Owerri in May 2021.
Parading the suspect in Owerri, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr. Micheal Abattam, said the arrest of the suspect, who the police had been trailing for the past one year, followed sophisticated intelligence.
He explained that the suspect, Chimaobi Anosike, who hailed from Ahiazu Mbaise escaped during a gun battle between the Police and the gang at Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of the state shortly after the murder of Alhaji Gulak.
According to the PPRO, while five other suspects lost their lives during the gun duel, the suspect managed to escape from the scene and had been involved in series of attacks on police facilities in the state.
The Suspect, in an interview, told journalists that he was merely a commercial vehicle driver, who was compelled by the gang to trail Chief Gulak to the airport where he was blocked and later killed as a result of his alleged refusal to get down from the vehicle as ordered by the hoodlums.
The command also paraded other persons, who allegedly terrorized the state, including those said to have burnt the residence of the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Ambassador George Obiozor.
Assorted weapon, charms and a live snake were allegedly recovered from the suspects by security agents.
