POLICE PARADE 49 SUSPECTED CRIMINALS IN IMO

The Police in Imo State have paraded 49 suspects over their alleged involvement in crimes.

Speaking with newsmen in Owerri, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command, Mr. Chris Ezike said the offences committed ranged from murder, cultism, robbery, kidnap to child stealing.

He said that one Lekwuwa Ogbuji, Amaechi Ikechukwu, Clement Onyema and a 14 year old female, Chidinma Iheoma, all from Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of the state have been arrested in connection with the killing of a motorcycle operator, Mr. Oguegbu Offurum, from the same council area on September 8, 2017.

“The named suspects are members of the dreaded Digbam cult group in Ohaji Egbema. They were arrested on the 26th of September by the operatives of the command in connection with the murder of Oguegbu Offurum. Investigation revealed that on the 8 of September, while the suspects were carrying out their initiation ceremony, the victim ran into them, they quickly blocked him, took him into the bush, killed him.”

Mr. Ezike also paraded three suspects belonging to different cult groups for their alleged role in the killing of one Justin Dimka, Nwaocha Uwalaka and Vote Shedrack, all from Ohaji Egbema Local Government who were brutally murdered between July and August this year.

He said investigations were on to apprehend other members of the gangs.

Other suspects paraded  were two males and three women for their alleged roles in the attempted murder of One Mrs. Abigail Ukah from Uzoagba in Ikeduru local Government Area of the State and subsequent abduction of her five and two year old children.

Mr. Ezike stated that the victim was later rescued from a nearby bush after sustaining machete injuries while her children had been freed from the hands of a suspected accomplice, Jacinta Amadi from Egede in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State who allegedly accepted to pay the sum of ₦1.1 million (One point one million naira) in exchange for the two boys.

 

“Two men visited their cousin and said I am here to be able to take you with your two children to my house so that you can while away some time, and he took them and they stayed in the house till 6pm, not knowing that he has arranged on how they would be waylaid on the road and how the woman would be killed so that the two children would be taken away and sold.”

A murder suspect, John Bobo and others accused of complicity in the attempted murder and stealing of the children spoke on their involvements.

“We are three and so those people killed him

“Am there, I can’t lie to you no matter anything, only God knows that I didn’t touch him.

“I cried it earlier, am regretting even then, they hit him and he died.

“I have a sister that needs a baby, they now brought this baby and told me that they brought it from home and I now connected my sister to them, so I paid them ₦800 (thousand), they said they would bring the paper at last, so I don’t know how they got the baby.

“I say if I see any child I will like to adopt, they called me saying that there is one that is available, I give them ₦800 (thousand).”

Meanwhile, the police said that the suspects would appear in court as soon as investigations were concluded.

Items allegedly recovered from the suspects included 22 locally made pistols, 5 pump action guns, 6 foreign made pistols, catchment of ammunition and wraps of weed suspected to be cannabis.
