POLICE NAB SEX WORKER WHO ATTEMPTS TO SELL BABY BOY FOR #40,000 IN ABAKALIKI

A thirty-two year old woman, who gave her name as Victoria Chekwube, is now in police custody over an attempt to sell her four month old baby boy for forty thousand Naira in Abakaliki Ebonyi State.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Loveth Oda, who presented the mother and the child to journalists at the State Police Command Abakaliki, explained that the nursing mother was looking for a buyer at Abacha Roundabout when she was accosted.
According to the Police spokesperson, the nursing mother claimed to be a commercial sex worker and was allegedly put in a family way by a man who paid her five thousand Naira to have unprotected sex with him.
Mrs. Oda said the mother and her baby would be handed over to the Welfare Department, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Ebonyi State for further action.
In an interview, the nursing mother said she wanted to sell the baby as a result of economic hardship, claiming that she intended to use the proceed to set up a beer parlour business in Abakaliki.
The Police also paraded a twenty-four year old man, Obinna Obike, who was arrested for being a member of a three man gang who allegedly snatched a cargo bus at gun point at Amasiri-Oso axis of Afikpo Okigwe Highway.
Items allegedly recovered from him included the stolen goods, a bus, military camouflage, three locally made guns and live ammunition.
