The Police command in Anambra State says its operatives have killed two armed men in the area.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, said a team of policemen while on patrol on Obosi-Nkpor Road by Obosi Town Hall were accosted by a gang of armed men in white Toyota Hiace bus, red Toyota Corolla and a motorcycle.

He said the operatives engaged the armed men in a gun battle, which resulted in the killing of two suspected gunmen, recovery of one pump action, one locally fabricated pistol and red Toyota Corolla with registration number AKD 303 DW.

The police image maker explained that the hoodlums fled when the superior fire power of the operatives over powered them.

He said the police had intensified patrol in the area and improved operational positioning to respond to distress calls with the aim of arresting other fleeing gang members.

In another development, policemen while on patrol on Central School Road, Umusiomen Nkpor, Ogidi recovered a white Mercedes Benz 350 with registration number RSH 836 BE suspected to have been abandoned by criminal elements.

The statement pointed out that the police operatives also rescued two suspects namely: one Stephen
Okoye, aged 19; and Chukwuemeka Nwudo aged, 27 from mob action along Zik Avenue Awka.

The statement explained that the suspects were caught with a locally made pistol, in attempt to dispossess a young lady of her cash, after withdrawing the money from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

The Image Maker said the suspects were already beaten to stupor by the angry mob before the police rescued them and recovered one locally made pistol and one live cartridge from them.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Echeng Echeng, while charging the operatives to sustain the tempo in the fight against violent crimes in the State, appealed to people against mob action and jungle justice.
