Reporter : AMECHI ODO

Police detectives from Ebonyi and Abia States Police Commands have recovered five Automatic Kalashnikov popularly known as AK47 rifles in Enyibichiri Community, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The rifles were allegedly carted away by a police constable, Shedrack Igwe, from the armoury of MOPOL Squadron 28 located in Abia State Police Headquarters.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the recovery of the five AK47 rifles followed the arrest of the Constable, Shedrack Igwe and his brother Ifeanyi Igwe at their home town in Enyibichiri Ikwo.

Further investigations revealed that the five rifles were recovered from Ikwo and had been taken back to Abia State Police Command along with the suspects.

When contacted, the Police Commissioner in Ebonyi State, Mr. Garba Aliyu, said the command assisted in the recovery and suggested that Radio Nigeria should get in touch with the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Abia State for more details.

However, when Radio Nigeria got in touch with the PPRO, Mr Geoffrey Ogbonna, he declined comment claiming that he was in a meeting.
