The Imo State Police Command has reassured law abiding residents of the area of its commitment to ensure adequate protection of lives and property. The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command, Mr. Isaac Akinmoyede, gave the assurance when the General Manager Radio Nigeria Heartland Fm Owerri, Mr. Basil Uzoma, visited him in Owerri.

The Police Commissioner attributed the recent arrest of over thirty suspects in connection with rape, defilement, incest, armed robbery and kidnapping in the state to the renewed efforts of the command to ensure that Imo was made uncomfortable for criminal elements.

Mr. Akinmoyede commended the gallantry exhibited by men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and Anti-kidnapping Unit for the rescue of some kidnap victims and apprehension of a gang that allegedly shot three officers of the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in an ambush at Ohi junction, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state.

He said the command would not tolerate unprofessional conduct among his men and charged them to always be civil in dealing with the public. Mr. Akinmoyede, while commending the state government for assistance, noted that the command needed more patrol vehicles and other logistics to enhance its operations.

Earlier the General Manager Radio Nigeria Heartland Fm Owerri Mr. Basil Uzoma said the visit was to strengthen the cordial relationship existing between the Command and corporation.
